ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Stefan Toth has over 15 years of international experience as a visual artist, art consultant, curator, and collector. He studied at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (BcA.) and the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (MgA.). In 2006 Stefan won the Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy Prize - the Paris Scholarship in Fine Art at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. From 2008 – 2012 studied doctoral program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (PhD.) with a research project: „Meaning of the context in contemporary art / Reinterpretation as an artistic style”. Stefan was a member of the artistic groups the Kontextual (2005 – 2007) and the Neue Kontextual (2008). His work was exhibited in Italy (the Palazzo Bembo, the 55. Venice Biennale, Venice), France (the Fondation Victor Lyon, Paris), Germany (the La Brique Gallery, Frankfurt), USA (the Hotel Victor, Miami Beach, Florida), Australia (the ANU School of Art Gallery, Canberra), as well as in the Czech Republic (the National Gallery Prague). His work is held in important public collections (the Collection Lambert in Avignon, Barceló Foundation in Palma de Mallorca, the National Gallery Prague) and private collections in the USA, England, Germany, France, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Poland, and Russia. In 2013 Stefan was a visiting tutor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. From 2004 till 2006 was an art creator and designer at Vincent Design Ltd. During that period, he created several art projects of interior design. From 2009 to 2014 Stefan was a curator at the Dea Orh Gallery in Prague and in 2015 was a curator at the Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery. Since 2017 Stefan is working at the Kunsthalle Praha as a collection manager. He is specializing in appropriation art and connotations of art. He is working with conceptions of history and philosophy of art. He is researching the relation of the aesthetic values of contemporary painting.
