About the artist:
Daniel Balabán has been one of the leading artists of the Ostrava art scene and the coryphae of contemporary Czech art in general since the mid-1980s. He was born on September 20, 1957 in Šumperk, Moravia, but has lived permanently in Ostrava since 1962. Between 1979 and 1984, he studied at Professor František Jiroudek's painting studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he also received his habilitation in 2004. From 1993 to 2007 he worked as the head of the painting studio at the Department of Fine Arts of the University of Ostrava, and since 2008 he has been running his painting studio at the Institute for Art Studies there.
